Well the general vibe in Ireland would be that Bag-in-Box (BIB) wines are rubbish. That may well be to do with the fact that most of them are aimed at the value for money market and are not hectic. It may also have something to do the relatively recent arrival of wine in this country, so we are not fully sure of ourselves yet. Irish wine lovers who will happily fill a plastic bottle with wine from a barrel in France wouldn't consider doing anything as radical as buying a BIB at home.
Well we're going to give you a pain-free opportunity to make your mind up this weekend. Call into Cases from Friday on and we'll have the same wine (the lovely fruity, spicy, Domaine de l'Arnesque Côtes du Rhône) from a BIB and a conventional glass bottle for you to sample. Why not try both blind and let your taste buds make the decision?!
Oh, and if you agree with us that the BIB is pretty good indeed, you pay almost half the price per unit so you can happily stock up for Electric Picnic or plan your August back garden relaxation without breaking the bank! The 3 litre Arnesque BIB is only €29.95 while the 75cl bottle is €12.95. Arnesque also do a Vin de Pays red and white 3 litre BIB for €24.95.
