Hot Cakes

When we were putting together our orders for Christmas earlier this year, we never thought that one of the real growth areas in December would be our top-end wines; but that's the way it has worked out. And now, we are faced with a situation where stocks of gorgeous, luxury wines which we thought would last us well into next year will probably not last until Christmas.

So here's a heads-up on the wines that are selling like hot cakes. We suggest you get into us to secure a precious bottle or two for yourself or the wine-lover in your life before the Christmas rush cleans them out entirely!

From Nicolas Boiron in Châteauneuf du Pape, ‘a wonderful source of traditional Châteauneuf du Papes' according to American wine critic Robert Parker:

Les Bosquet des Papes Cuvée Tradition Châteauneuf du Pape AC 2009 - available in regular 75cl bottles (€33.95 for a sampler bottle/€28.95 in a mixed case) and magnums (€69.95/59.95). Both are running low. ‘Full-bodied, generous, corpulent, and a sexy, complex, relatively evolved Châteauneuf du Pape to drink over the next 8-10 years. ( 2011 to 2021)'. Robert Parker, Oct 2011.

Chante le Merle Vielles Vignes Châteauneuf du Pape AC 2009 - ‘this wine is delicious already, and should continue to evolve for another 10-12 years. (2011 to 2023) ' 92 points Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, October 2011. (€54.95/€45.95)

From La Pèira in the Languedoc, an extraordinary vineyard producing the ‘elite of Languedoc wines that need not fear comparison with any of the world's wine icons. ' (Robert Parker, June 2009). We received tiny allocations of all three wines and it is truly a matter of ‘first come, first served':

Les Obriers de la Pèira Terrasses du Larzac Coteaux du Languedoc AC 2009 - ‘This is one of those wines that normally restrained people fight over at the dinner table.' John Wilson, Irish Times, April 2011(€21.95/€19.95)

Las Flors de la Pèira Terrasses du Larzac Coteaux du Languedoc AC 2009 - Stunningly complex blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault .93-94 points, Wine Advocate (David Schildknecht). (€39.95/€36.95)

La Pèira en Damaisèla Terrasses du Larzac Coteaux du Languedoc AC 2009 - Amazingly complex, savoury wine. 95-96 points, Wine Advocate (David Schildknecht). Tasting notes go on for pages. (€80.95/€73.95)

And from Bordeaux:
Château Sérilhan St Estephe AC 2006. From a family-managed estate in Saint-Estèphe with one of the most impressive medal hauls you will ever see. This cabernet-based blend is perfumed, supple, and silky with intense black fruits backed by a firm tannic structure. (€32.95/€29.95)
Château Perron Lalande de Pomerol AC 2007. One of the rising stars of the Right Bank, and now one of the best of this appellation. (€29.95/€27.95)
Château Cardinal-Villemaurine St. Emilion Grand Cru AC 2007. A smooth, medium-bodied blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this is delicious, with lovely fresh black fruit notes and well-balanced oak - the hit of our Tasting Counter right now. (€24.95/€20.95)
Les Allées de Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc AC 2006. Long, dense and very balanced. (€25.95/€21.95).

As I said already, all of these wines are selling way beyond our expectations so get your skates on! Because of the limited quantities involved, some of them may not be featured on our website but give us a call at 091-764 701 or email us at info@cases.ie and we'll be happy to help you with them!
